In the year 1984, Muthayammal Educational Trust was established to create higher educational facilities to poor rural people who could not go to towns and cities in pursuit of higher education.
The trust is started by Mr.R.Ramasamy as a Chairman, Mr. R .Premkumar M.A.,MPhil., as a Secretary and Mr. R. Vijay kumar B.E., Msc as a Treasurer.
In the year 1984, the Trust entered its first Foot-print with Muthayammal Polytechnic College. Its second Foot -print with M.R Matriculation Hr sec school Chennai in the year 1987. Its Third Foot -print with
Muthayammal Industrial Training Institute in the year 1999.Its Fourth Foot -print with Muthayammal Memorial College of arts and science in the year 2014.

Until early 1980, higher education remained only a dream in the minds of rural Indian students and they had to go a long way in fulfilling their aspirants.

Tamil Nadu gets its pride from the fact that the first Engineering institution to come into being in the country was the Survey School established in 1794 at Madras by the East India Company.
The Engineering Colleges and Polytechnics were under the control of the Directorate of Public Instruction and the Directorate of Industries and Commerce respectively. The Directorate of Technical Education was
formed with effect from 14th October 1957, consequent to the suggestions made by the State Standing Advisory Board of Technical Education.
The Technical Education Department under the control of Higher Education Department is a vast one dealing with Diploma, Post Diploma, Degree, Post Graduate courses and Research programmes in specified fields.
Apart from the above, it regulates the establishment of Technical Institutions including Commerce Institutions such as Typewriting, Shorthand and Accountancy.
The administrative chart, depicts the hierarchy of officers who administer the Directorate of Technical Education. The institutions recognized by the Directorate of Techncial Education and affiliated with the
concerned Universities evolve round the Directorate of Technical Education. The Director of Technical Education is the head of this Department under whom the overall administration is controlled.
Administrative Chart Of Engineering Colleges & Polytechnics
Like the Directorate of Technical Education, the administrative head of each Engineering College and Polytechnic is the Principal of the institution. Under the direct control of the Principal of the institution,
every Polytechnic and Engineering College function. The details of categories of staff of Engineering Colleges/Polytechnic are furnished in Annexure-II (A & B).
Admission in Diploma Courses
There are at present 431 Polytechnics in our State offering Diploma courses, Post Diploma courses and Certificate courses on various branches of studies in Engineering and Technology. Ten Institutes of Catering
Technology and Hotel Management offering 3 year Diploma courses are also affiliated to this Directorate. The candidates who complete the Xth Standard are eligible for admission for Polytechnic Colleges and XIIth
Standard for Catering Institutions. Before the admission process is started, the required qualifications such as Age, Marks required, Number of Seats in the various categories etc. are published in the leading
dailies so that students can decide their choice of Polytechnic, Course etc. well in advance.
Admission in Post Diploma Courses
Some Government and Government Aided Polytechnics offer Post Diploma courses in various branches of Engineering. Candidates who possess Diploma can apply for Post Diploma courses in respective / connected branches.
There is no age limit for applying for admission to the above programme.
Laternal Entry Into B.E. Degree Courses
Diploma holders are permitted to join B.E Degree courses under Lateral Entry System. They undergo the course from the second year of the four year Degree programme. The intake is lilmited to 10% of the B.E. / B.Tech.
approved intake. Applications will be invited by the Directorate of Technical Education from the eligible candidates and allotment is made based on merit, communal reservation etc.
Laternal Entry Into Diploma Courses
HSC (Academic & Vocational) students can directly join the second year of the three year Diploma programme under Lateral Entry System in all Polytechnics.Their intake is restricted to 20% (10% Academic + 10% Vocational)
of the sanctioned intake of the 1 year Diploma courses.
